1950’s Fashion

The 1950’s was a time when the look of fashion reemerged. We saw this with the Haute Couture by Christian Dior and Cristobal Balenciaga doing something different from the restrictive simple styles. The 1950’s saw a new development in the music scene. For example, Rock n Roll and the Blues music made such a huge impact on society at that time. People wanted to have fun and be entertained.

During the 1950’s, fashion took on a different shape and silhouette. 1950’s fashion shows the feminine side and embraced the hourglass figure. Going forward from that, into today, the same styles and silhouette are being reintroduced. Whether the fashion industry is bringing back the exact same styles or adding new and improved elements to the garments; it is inspired by the 1950’s fashion.

For example, in women's fashion a very popular silhouette is the A-line skirts and princess style dresses.  During the 1950’s in the world fashion the everyday fashion look was introduced. This meant that the ready-to-wear mass market took off and is still that way today.

The fifties had the more ,elegant triangular silhouettes that are practical. Although today, the look for hats are definitely coming back as one of the key items to have, during the 1950’s that started to die down. The new thing became accesories, and how women as well as men played with that look as a whole.

For instance women were wearing scarves in their hair more often. Accessories such as glasses that covered half of your face was a necessity to have. Jewelry such as bracelets and brooches were such a main piece of a woman's outfit. Back in the 1950’s women wanted to be and feel extravagant and glamorous. We might have left the 1950’s time period but it for sure has not left us.
