1950’s Fashion

The 1950’s was a time when the look of fashion reemerged. We saw this with the Haute Couture by Christian Dior and Cristobal Balenciaga doing something different from the restrictive simple styles. The 1950’s saw a new development in the music scene. For example, Rock n Roll and the Blues music made such a huge impact on society at that time. People wanted to have fun and be entertained.

During the 1950’s, fashion took on a different shape and silhouette. 1950’s fashion shows the feminine side and embraced the hourglass figure. Going forward from that, into today, the same styles and silhouette are being reintroduced. Whether the fashion industry is bringing back the exact same styles or adding new and improved elements to the garments; it is inspired by the 1950’s fashion.

For example, in women's fashion a very popular silhouette is the A-line skirts and princess style dresses.  During the 1950’s in the world fashion the everyday fashion look was introduced. This meant that the ready-to-wear mass market took off and is still that way today.

The fifties had the more ,elegant triangular silhouettes that are practical. Although today, the look for hats are definitely coming back as one of the key items to have, during the 1950’s that started to die down. The new thing became accesories, and how women as well as men played with that look as a whole.

For instance women were wearing scarves in their hair more often. Accessories such as glasses that covered half of your face was a necessity to have. Jewelry such as bracelets and brooches were such a main piece of a woman's outfit. Back in the 1950’s women wanted to be and feel extravagant and glamorous. We might have left the 1950’s time period but it for sure has not left us.

FASHIONABLE YET FORMAL

If you are aiming to invest in some stylish fashionable formal dresses to embrace this fall and that will last for years to come, here are some favorite picks from online stores get you started.  The collarless leather jacket and python-embossed clutch add an edgy finish while the trench coat and these walkable burgundy pumps (2.5″ heels) are incredibly chic.
I’m also loving the turnlock carryall that goes perfectly with any outfit and the pyramid ring for a touch of daytime glam.  Don’t miss out on the Final Call for even better deals!. Aiming for a casual work look?  How about a simple stripe tee that never goes out of style?  It has a carefree ease that allows you to effortlessly dress up or down.  I favor denim pants most of the time but a stripe top pairs just as well with dressy trousers for a day at the office.
These casual yet formal dress outfits found online can give you headsup on fashion. For the crisp fall days, layer a blazer, cozy cardigan, or leather jacket (love this one). In regards to choosing a style that is best suited for work, I suggest bootcut jeans in dark wash. You can’t go wrong with the simple, comfortable and polished style of the bootcut. These formal dresses can be found here
Shoe-skimming dark jeans create a clean, lean silhouette which will flatter your overall proportions. Also consider mid to high waist if you wish to shrink your hip area. Take any basic outfit up a notch with accessories. Slip on a classic wrist watch, or have fun mixing & matching different rings.  You can pop on a red nail color to add a touch of glam! These stripe tops look chic and feel comfortable.  Wear them to work with a slim-fitting skirt, jeans or slacks.

HAVE SKINNY JEANS BECOME MAINSTREAM FOR MEN?

The dog days of summer always service notice that fall is not far away. The gin and tonic days are numbered and the casual attire of summer gets ready for their long hibernation. It is at this time of the year that I gain a renewed interest in denim jeans for men – what’s in style, is there a change at hand, what additions are needed for my ever expanding collection? I look to the recent past to ground myself and provide pragmatic direction. And so it begins. Long dormant brain cells spring to life. A memory is rekindled. Fall 2015 / winter 2016 comes back into focus.
In the city, skinny jeans were popping up on men in an increasing frequency. Lately they have become a go to jean not just for the university students and young hipsters, but also for upwardly mobile professionals and blue collar workers without regard for a wearers age. Although skinny jeans for men have been around for years, the current status as a go to style has to be synonymous with mainstream acceptance.
From Lee Jeans to Saint Laurent, virtually everyone has a skinny jean offering for men. However; the designation of skinny is evolving as there are now cuts labeled as extreme skinny, super slim, or super skinny, all indicating a trend for tighter, skinnier jeans.
Styling such skinny jeans can be a challenge, but to find an answer, we look to the streets. A common theme is hip length sweaters or shirts coupled with a jacket when required by circumstance, personal style, or weather conditions . If you wear boots, you’ll most likely need to tuck the jeans into them which can be a rocking good look.

So the open question is, are skinny jeans still a growing trend for men or has it hit its high water mark? Only time will tell, at which point we’ll already be talking about some other style. However; there are some tea leaves we can read. If women’s styles are a leading indicator of men’s styles (which seems to have been the case for skinny jeans), we should start to see the inclusion of softer fabrics higher rises, and legging like levels of skinniness. Stay tuned. We welcome, and some would say need your opinions, to keep us on course.

TRANSFORM YOUR PROFESSIONAL LOOK

If you’re a fashionable girl working in a buttoned-up, ultra conservative world, dressing professionally is an absolute must. Unfortunately, professional settings are not exactly friendly to the fashion forward. Luckily, you can maintain a level of style by working in fashionable elements through subtle accessories and chic silhouettes.

Business professional attire for women formal dress is very similar to what men are expected to wear: The Power Suit. No, this doesn’t mean you have to wear a boxy jacket, pinstripe pants and a tie… Instead, opt for a slim cut pantsuit, a skit and jacket combination, or a structured (and modest) dress.

While there are no rules in fashion, there are rules for fashion in the workplace. A few basic guidelines for business women formal dressing include the following:
  1. Wear colors based on a neutral color palette (black, navy, cream, charcoal or grey). Unfortunately lime green and bright pink won’t cut it in the boardroom.
  2. All suits and skirts should be tailored to fit close to the body (but not tight). Skirts should hit at the knee or below. And blouses should be conservative, freshly pressed and always tucked in.
  3. Wear scuff-free heels or flats in a neutral color. If you go for the heels, don’t wear anything higher than 3 or 4 inches.
  4. I think the ballerina bun is the perfect hairstyle for any female powerhouse.

Now, just because you work in a conservative workplace doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice style for the sake of your career, ladies. Update women formal dress classic looks with these simple tricks:

  1. Try cropped trousers paired with a sharp blazer. These tapered pants are perfection for achieving women formal dress look.
  2. Swap out your basic blazer for a lightly accented jacket or simply scrunch up your sleeves for a cooler and more modern vibe.
  3. Instead of wearing a matching two-piece suit, mix it up and wear a black blazer with a charcoal or burgundy pencil skirt or pant. As long as your colors are subdued, you should have the freedom to mix it up a bit. Traditionalists may argue that matching sets are a must, but let’s be honest here, there’s a new wave of professional women formal dress and times have changed. If you’re really daring, throw in a few punchy colors here and there…
  4. Cinch your waist with a thin, colored belt. It’s an easy way to add a fashionable pop to an otherwise basic or drab office outfit.
  5. Swap out your pencil skirt for a high-waist A-line skirt.

BECOME TREND SETTER WITH THIS NEW CASUAL LOOK!

As business casual month draws to a close today, here are some stylish trend setters for casual men for fall.

If you’ve got some room to play around – or you just want to set the style standard at your workplace – consider a denim jacket as an alternative to a traditional blazer. Obviously, this would just be as outerwear for the commute and not something you’d wear around the office all day. And go with a pair of killer kicks to complete the casual men look:

If you’ve been following along at home all month, you know that business casual is all about substitution, subtraction and judicious additions. This look falls into the substitution category. A knit tie and denim shirt in place of a traditional button-up and silk tie tones down the formality but keeps it looking classic for casual men:

File this under Casual Friday. This is such a simple look, I think it’s easy to overlook or overthink when you’re in your daily routine. Remember that investing in great basics will always pay you back:

A turtleneck is a great substitute for a shirt and tie. Soft, stylish and sophisticated:

For a Friday that includes after work activities like cocktails with colleagues or a first date, lose the tie and trade your trousers for a pair of “in-between” dress pants:

Don’t forget the v-neck sweater! In a fair isle pattern layered under a plaid blazer is a perfect fall combination for casual men:

Menswear is all about the details and well-appointed accessories. If you plan to go sans tie, throw on a simple silk scarf to easily elevate the look:

TALK OF THE TOWN WITH LATEST FASHION TRENDS

Fashion month may have come and gone, but the street style inspiration from the past several weeks is still in abundance. From the streets of New York, Milan and Paris, we hunted down the best looks and the latest fashion trends to decipher what you’ll be wearing next. So, what’s on offer? Vibrant reds and bold prints are about to have your wardrobe bursting with color and style. While you’re looking chic, you’ll also be feeling relaxed as pajamas dressing becomes your regular. Sleeves will be extended, shoulders will be bare, pants will feature foot straps, and skirts will be pleated or patent.

If that’s not enough, ruffles and unexpected layers will provide the finishing touches to your look with our latest fashion trends. From bright fire engine hues to rich crimson tones, red was undoubtedly the hot color of the season.

Worn head-to-toe, red created bold and un-missable looks for many female show-goers. Some of the ladies even decided to add red shoes to the equation and create latest fashion trend! Whether the color was worn as a dress or in coordinating separates, its rich tone was enough to be the statement for any outfit. Shoes, jewellery, sunglasses, hair and makeup, were all kept subdued and politely fell to the background to make way for this saturation of color.

Silky, smooth and oh-so-chic, this trend has seen the most stylish interpretations of PJs we’ve ever known. You will find satin, wide-leg, pants and shirts, silk robes and sexy slip dresses aplenty. Delicate botanical prints up the ante on this trend while hints of lace and traditional pajamas-style piping finish the look off with the perfect details. One the best ways to show that you know what styling and latest fashion trend is all about is to master the art of layering.

Sweat pants were worn with trousers, high-fashion sleeves emerged from rolled up jumpers, and statement shirts and dresses were combined to make one ultimate statement. Unexpected yet brilliant, this was a winning look.

CREATE YOUR OWN FASHION STYLE

I am a big proponent of what is going on in fashion right now. Crushing over the velvet bug. Long dramatic sleeves, Tea length dresses with stacked heel boots, Plaid mini-skirts, Blair Waldorf style,  Mules, Boots. I love Fall shopping because its filled with lush fabrics, and loads of layers. As much as I love all that jazz, I love returning to black and white basics. Just like a French girl. I have a lot of fun getting dressed and finding just the right piece to wear.

Apart from this Summer has abandoned us for cooler temps, shorter days, cozy sweaters, and butternut squash. I am also embracing my fondness for the new fashion style “ruffles”. Ruffle Mania has taken over the fashion world and I want it all.

Change allows us to people forward and embrace the moment, but it never hurts to look back at the mistakes. In the words of Kanye, “you learn the most from your mistakes.” My mind, body, and soul, like most of us, has changed over the past five years. Change is good! And in the name of fashion style, I have learned from many fashion mistakes. My flavor in fashion style has run the gamut from wearing ill-fitting clothing just because they were cool, to embracing color that doesn’t fit the bill.

Now that I have learned the ropes, I have finally remained true to one particular style, my fashion style. And my love of ruffles. Because I love ruffles so much, I continue to wear them with verve and panache. Worn with denim, as a skirt, on shoes, they make an outfit pop set a new fashion style. Ruffles are meant to make a statement, so wearing one at a time is the norm. I like to step out of my comfort zone and embrace something new. Like wearing a few ruffles at a time.
